Alfonso L. Sangtian Jr., MD, FAAP, is a 1975 graduate of the University of San Carlos in Cebu City, Philippines with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. In 1979, Dr. Sangtian graduated from the Cebu Institute of Medicine with a Doctor of Medicine. Dr. Sangtian’s pediatric residency training at the Medical Center of Manila took place from 1979 to 1981.
In 1982, Dr. Sangtian moved to Hollywood, CA to work at the Julian Medical Center until 1984. In January of 1985, Dr. Sangtian moved to New York and was a House Staff Physician at the Medical Arts Center Hospital until 1987. In 1990, Dr. Sangtian finished a residency in Pediatrics at Staten Island University Hospital. Dr. Sangtian was the Director of the Children’s Emergency Center and Associate Director at the University’s Pediatrics Ambulatory Care Department; his duties here included supervising, teaching and training pediatric residents and medical students at Staten Island University Hospital in Staten Island, New York.
While Dr. Sangtian was working in New York, he met and married his wife Cecilia and then moved to Bennettsville, SC in 1993 where he had his own practice until 1995. In 1995 Dr. Sangtian relocated to Myrtle Beach, SC to take the position of Director of Children’s Health Service of Healthcare Partners.
In June of 1998, Coastal Pediatrics was pleased to have Dr. Sangtian join our team. Dr. Sangtian is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics since 1994 and is a Diplomate and Board Certified in Pediatrics since 1990. Dr. Sangtian has been awarded with:

Dr. Sangtian and his wife Cecilia love traveling to the Philippines to give free medical help to the needy. He enjoys traveling with his family which includes his son-in-law.
