Alfonso L. Sangtian Jr., MD, FAAP, graduated from the University of San Carlos in Cebu City, Philippines with a Bachelor of Science in Biology, March of 1975. He graduated from the Cebu Institute of Medicine with a Doctor of Medicine in April of 1979. Dr. Sangtian did his pediatric residency training at the Medical Center of Manila from 1979 till 1981. In 1982 Dr. Sangtian moved to Hollywood, CA. where he worked at the Julian Medical Center till 1984. In January of 1985, he made a decision to relocate to New York, and was a House Staff Physician for the Medical Arts Center Hospital in New York City till 1987. He also did a residency in Pediatrics at Staten Island University Hospital till 1990. Dr. Sangtian held the position of Director of the Children's Emergency Center and Associate Director at the University's Pediatrics Ambulatory Care Department. Part of his duty was supervising, teaching and training pediatric residents and medical students at Staten Island University Hospital, in Staten Island New York.
Dr. Sangtian met and married his wife Cecilia while working in New York, and in 1993, they moved to Bennettsville SC. While there he had a Private Practice until 1995. Later in 1995 he relocated to Myrtle Beach SC to become the Director of Children's Health Service of Healthcare Partners.
In June of 1998 Dr. Sangtian joined Coastal Pediatrics. He is a Diplomate and Board Certified in Pediatrics since 1990, and a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics since 1994. In 2004 he was given "First Place, Best Pediatrician" in Best of the Beach Award. In 2012 Dr. Sangtian received "First Place, Best Pediatrician", Readers Choice Award.
Dr. Sangtian loves traveling with his wife Cecilia to the Philippines, where he gives his time to treating the needy people for free. His hobby is traveling with his family including his son-in-law.
